From Portsmouth to Provence!

Having just got back from event tenting on the Isle of Wight we’re itching to get back on a ferry… and this time we’d love to head to France! Our base in Portsmouth means we’re great candidates for bell tent hire for destination weddings in France, we love a crack of dawn ferry!

The beauty of destination weddings is you get to immerse yourself, and your guests, in a different culture. It’s not just a wedding, it’s a holiday. Think weddings in France and it conjures up thoughts of chateaus and vineyards, charming French villages, yachts, swimming pools… and all the cheese. There’s somehow an air of sophistication and grandeur when it comes to weddings in France, and there’s no reason a glamping wedding can’t be sophisticated!

Destination weddings tend to be more relaxed than weddings here. We hear it time and time again – weddings go by in a blur – there’s lots of booze, lots of food, drunken dancing and it’s over. A destination wedding in France, for example, could be a much more leisurely affair; wandering into the village for morning baguettes, watching the world go by while having a coffee in a cute pavement café, drinks by the pool, dining al fresco with festoon lighting overhead… sounds rather nice doesn’t it? And if your guests are staying for a few days, chateau accommodation and poolside bell tents sounds about right!

The Best Events Company

Companies like The Best Events Company specialise in wedding in France. Founded by experienced events planner Samantha Bottomley, The Best Events Company can recommend venues based on your requirements, liaise with local suppliers and conduct site visits on your behalf. On the day of your wedding, they’ll oversee set up and ensure the day runs to schedule. Planning a wedding abroad is exciting, but also daunting, so using a company who knows the area will be a godsend when planning a destination wedding in France… they have a valuable book of contacts! The Best Events Company also offer prop hire and wedding stationery. We think they should add bell tent hire to their little black book!

Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson

Who’s been watching Channel 4’s Escape to the Chateau? We know it’s got a bit of a cult following! What’s not to love about Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson, the fairytale castle owned and run by Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree?

The chateau is in the Pays de la Loire region and is set within twelve acres of breath-taking parkland (perfect for a glamping wedding!) It features a majestic moat, an Art Deco orangery, a walled garden and numerous outbuildings and stables. The chateau itself boasts five floors and forty-five rooms.

Dick and Angel are a dynamic duo, with Dick cooking and tackling practical work, and Angel injecting her magic ‘vintage’ touch. She has a great eye for mixing elegant vintage touches, like embroidered French linen napkins, with colourful quirky touches like fairground signs… and even a Helter Skelter in the grounds!

We’d love to go there with our bell tents! Hint hint.

Chateau Bees Selection

If you’re thinking about a glamping wedding in France, it’s worth checking out Chateau Bee Selection – they showcase French wedding venues and you can browse online by category. We searched ‘glamping wedding’, ‘camping wedding’ and ‘festival wedding’ and were soon swooning over quirky, out-of-the-ordinary venues with treehouses, old barns and beautiful grounds – screaming out for bell tent hire! “It’s like The Michelin Guide of wedding venues in France” their website boasts, and we must agree, it’s pretty special. The company is run by husband and wife team James and Ingrid who had their own wedding in France in 2013. They started searching round Ingrid’s home region of Brittany and were blown away by how many amazing wedding venues there were, within easy reach from the UK. “It became clear that these venues were hard to find online for English speaking couples” they explain. “Other online directories just showed hundreds of venues, without any quality control so it was tricky to tell the average venues from the true gems, without visiting in person.”

We would absolutely love to provide bell tents for a wedding in France. Our base in Portsmouth means we can pack our vans and set off on a road trip! Check out our weddings page and get in touch.

Vive la France!
