Experience Something Different

You will find the Larmer Tree nestled in the heart of the Cranborne Chase, on the Wiltshire/ Dorset border in an area of outstanding natural beauty. General Augustus Pitt Rivers created the gardens in 1880 and is an extraordinary example of Victorian extravagance and vision. They were the first privately owned gardens to be opened for public enjoyment and are recognised by English Heritage as a Garden of National Importance.

There are a unique collection of ornate buildings within the garden where your Civil Ceremony can be held; inside the Victorian Jubilee Hall and General’s Room, or outside in the Roman Temple and Lower Indian Room. The choice of your marriage room will depend on your guest numbers, but do not fear, we have total flexibility whatever the weather and this stunning venue is available all year round.

Throughout the year, the entire 11 acres are available for your private use, whether you choose to hold your ceremony at the Larmer Tree or elsewhere, you can enjoy the company of friends and family in exclusive privacy. Our unique setting is perfect for almost any style of wedding, as well as serving your choice of wedding breakfast from a relaxed BBQ, sharing feast or formal dinner; the stunning Pavilion can comfortably seat 150 guests. Enjoy dusk in a deckchair, or cocktail hour on the main lawn, then stroll through twinkling lights to the elegant Victorian Jubilee Hall and party the night away.

Not everyone wants to marry in high season, when dates can be tricky and friends are booking holidays. There is something cheeky about breaking away from the norm. Weddings in October, November and December are becoming more and more popular. The Larmer Tree is aglow in autumn with the changing colour of the trees, the low light gives a warmth to your photographs and a lingering mist adds a bit of mystique to nuptials in December. Yes, you’re taking a gamble on the weather, but for this reason we have created a saving on your hire fee. We can’t promise you snow, but’s happened before…

If you like the idea of a more intimate celebration, we can offer a Secret Garden Wedding. These are held midweek Monday to Thursday, for a maximum of 30 guests. You are welcome to use any one of the buildings for your ceremony and we provide a marquee on the main lawn for your reception with garden furniture, garden games and deck chairs. Peacocks and free flying Macaws complete the magical atmosphere.
